Choice for men

Choice for men is a name for a proposal to eliminate the unfairness of mandatory child support for men. The usual outline is that men would be allowed to sign away their rights to the child in return for freedom from support obligation, similar to giving up a baby for adoption. This would be done within a certain time limit after notification or birth.

It may be objected, though, that non-support should be the default position for children born out of wedlock and the father should explicitly claim his paternity, as this is not only natural but eliminates the possibility of fraud or deception benefiting the mother.

Choice for men is commonly defended as being the male equivalent of abortion.
